Gunkan Suship Xyz Toolbox
Generic Rank 4 and 5 tools when in-archetype ships are not enough
Pure Gunkan Suship lists live and die on in-archetype Xyz — Shirauo-class Light Carrier, Ikura-class Dreadnought, and Uni-class Dreadnought cover most games. Advanced pilots and hybrid builders still keep a generic Xyz toolbox in the Extra Deck for turns where toppings were negated, materials are wrong rank, or lethal requires a detour through utility Rank 4s. This guide explains when Magikey Spirit - Vepartu searches Shari, how Number F0: Utopic Future and Number F0: Utopic Draco Future salvage material, why Lightning Storm-era pilots still mention Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir, and where Emeral fits without bloating the Extra Deck. In-archetype priorities remain on the Extra Deck card guide; this page covers everything else.
When you reach for generic Xyz
Generic tools appear in three scenarios:
- Engine partial resolution — Shari bodies survive but Gunkan Suship Shirauo got negated off Gunkan Suship Shari Red, leaving Rank 4 material without a valid in-archetype overlay target equipped correctly.
- Going-second utility — You need immediate removal or a direct attack enabler when Gunkan Suship Uni-class Dreadnought is one body short.
- Hybrid material clutter — Ryzeal hybrid lists produce Level 4 stacks that do not always mention Gunkan names; generic Rank 4s convert leftovers into interaction.
Pure lists run zero to two generic slots; hybrid lists run three to five. Trim generics before trimming second copies of Ikura Dreadnought — OTK consistency beats luxury toolbox cards.
Magikey Spirit - Vepartu and Shari search lines
Magikey Spirit - Vepartu is a Rank 4 that can detach material to add a Level 4 or lower Normal Monster from deck to hand. Gunkan Suship Shari is a Normal Monster — Vepartu searches Shari when in-archetype lines fail but Rank 4 bodies remain.
Typical line: overlay two Level 4 Shari or Shari plus topping into Vepartu, detach to add Shari, normal summon Shari next turn or same turn if Normal Summon remains available, proceed with Catch triggers. Vepartu does not replace Catch — it recovers when summons were interrupted after bodies hit field.
Vepartu competes with Evilswarm Exciton Knight and Castel, the Skyblaster Musketeer for the same Extra Deck slot. Choose Vepartu when Shari density in main deck is high and you expect to rebuild after board breaks; choose Castel when non-destruction removal matters more.
Number F0: Utopic Future and Draco Future climbs
Number F0: Utopic Future overlays two Level 4 monsters with 0 ATK or DEF — Effect Veiler plus Gunkan Suship Shari qualifies when Veiler was special summoned or when Shari’s DEF line satisfies conditions depending on overlay rules in effect.
Future climbs into Number F0: Utopic Draco Future by using Future as material plus another Xyz — situational in Suship because you rarely want to consume your only Carrier as climb fodder. Draco Future’s negation and attack boost wins grind games when Ikura OTK failed and opponent left one monster.
These lines are fringe — document them so pilots recognize tournament lists, not because every rogue pilot should craft them day one. Budget lists skip Utopic entirely.
Zeus via Uni direct attack lines
Number 99: Utopia Dragonar and Number C99: Utopia Dragonar appear in some hybrid tech lists; more commonly Suship pilots access Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder by controlling a monster that attacked — often Gunkan Suship Uni-class Dreadnought or Ikura-class Dreadnought after a successful direct attack.
Uni Dreadnought equipped with Gunkan Suship Uni enables destruction before battle; swing for damage, then overlay Zeus on the attacking Dreadnought to wipe opponent’s field. This line matters when going second into a single monster — Uni destroys it, Dreadnought attacks directly, Zeus closes resources.
Zeus is UR-heavy and banned in some formats — verify Master Duel banlist before crafting. When legal, one Zeus in Extra Deck is enough; do not run two.
Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir
Bagooska locks both players out of Extra Deck special summons while it has material — useful going first when you end on Rank 4 material without Shirauo equipped and need time. Suship rarely ends on Bagooska intentionally in 2026 — Shirauo-class Light Carrier provides interaction plus damage — but Bagooska still appears in side or Extra for hybrid pilots who overlay Ryzeal bodies without Carrier access.
Detach timing matters: Bagooska dies when material empties — do not detach for effects unless you intend to pass the lock.
Emeral and recovery roles
Emeral returns three Level 4 monsters from grave to deck to draw one — strong when Shari lines dump multiple Level 4s to grave through equip costs and overlays. Suship generates grave fodder naturally via Xyz climbs and Painful Decision sends.
Emeral is slower than Vepartu for Shari recovery but better when grave contains two Shari and a topping you want to recycle. One copy suffices; Emeral is cut first when Extra Deck space tightens in deck profile 2026 lists.
Extra Deck slot priority order
Recommended fill order for pure Suship:
- Two Ikura-class Dreadnought
- Two Shirauo-class Light Carrier
- One Uni-class Dreadnought
- One Vepartu or Castel
- Optional Zeus if legal and owned
- Optional Bagooska for hybrid pilots
Hybrid lists insert Ryzeal Xyz before generics — see Ryzeal hybrid. Never cut in-archetype ships for Emeral unless you play pure grind — OTK wins games faster at rogue tiers.
Going-first versus going-second toolbox
Going first, toolbox cards are backup when Carrier line fails — Vepartu searches Shari for next-turn rebuild. Going second, Zeus and Uni direct lines finish games; Bagooska is almost never correct on turn one OTK hands.
Cross-read going-first combos for default end boards before adding generics — most pilots lose ranked games from sequencing errors, not missing Zeus.
Craft and budget notes
Generic Xyz are shared across many Master Duel accounts — craft after Suship archetype core. Vepartu and Castel are SR-tier in many sets; Zeus is UR priority only for pilots who already win without it. Use the craft cost tool to compare one Zeus versus second Ikura Dreadnought — second Ikura wins more Suship mirrors.
When not to run a toolbox
Festival Under 5 lists cap URs — skip Zeus and Utopic climbs. Budget pilots skip all generics until double Dreadnought and double Carrier are complete. Learning pilots should run zero generics until core lines are automatic — extra options confuse opening decisions.
The toolbox is insurance, not identity. Suship wins with sushi ships first; generics patch holes second.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers duelist ask most often.
Does every Suship list need Vepartu?
No. Pure lists can run zero generics if double Carrier and double Ikura cover your games. Vepartu helps recovery-heavy metas when Shari needs searching from Rank 4 bodies.
How do I summon Zeus in Suship?
Control a monster that attacked this turn — often Uni-class or Ikura-class Dreadnought after battle — then overlay Zeus on that monster. Verify banlist legality before crafting.
Is Bagooska still worth running?
Rarely in pure 2026 Suship. Hybrid lists that end on naked Rank 4s without Carrier may side one copy for going-first locks.
Should I prioritize Zeus or a second Ikura Dreadnought?
Second Ikura Dreadnought for pure pilots. Zeus is a luxury for pilots who already OTK consistently and have spare UR dust.
Where do Utopic Future lines fit?
Fringe recovery when material includes 0 ATK/DEF Level 4s. Most pilots skip Future unless they already own it from other decks.
