Gunkan Suship Core Combo Lines

These core Gunkan Suship combo lines are the foundation for every ranked duel. Once you can execute them under Master Duel’s timer without pausing for card text, you can adapt to any hand that contains a Shari, a Catch, or a Sushipyard. The embedded video above demonstrates Xyz spam and OTK routes visually; the written steps below match the main deck, Extra Deck, and spell/trap support profiles used in competitive and engine package lists.

Line A — Standard double Shari into Carrier

Required: Gunkan Suship Shari, Gunkan Sushipyard, Gunkan Suship Catch-of-the-Day, Gunkan Suship Shirauo.

  1. Activate Gunkan Sushipyard.
  2. Set Catch-of-the-Day.
  3. Normal Summon Gunkan Suship Shari.
  4. Trigger Catch to add Gunkan Suship Shirauo to hand.
  5. Use Shari’s effect to Special Summon a second Shari from deck.
  6. Trigger Catch again to add any Gunkan card (often second Sushipyard or Daily Special).
  7. Equip Shirauo to one Shari via Sushipyard.
  8. Overlay both Level 4 Shari into Gunkan Suship Shirauo-class Light Carrier.
  9. End with set Catch and Carrier on field.

This is the default going-first board. Shirauo’s equipped negate carries onto Carrier, and Catch threatens more searches next turn.

Line B — Shari Red bridge into Ikura Dreadnought

Required: Gunkan Suship Shari, Gunkan Suship Shari Red, Gunkan Suship Ikura, Sushipyard, Catch.

  1. Activate Sushipyard.
  2. Normal Summon Shari.
  3. Set Catch (optional before summon if you fear removal—either order works if Catch is set before second summon trigger).
  4. Special Summon second Shari from deck.
  5. Normal Summon or special summon Shari Red if available; if Red is in hand instead of second Shari, summon Red first and use its effect to equip Ikura from deck to Shari.
  6. If Ikura is not yet equipped, use Sushipyard to equip Ikura from hand.
  7. Overlay into Gunkan Suship Ikura-class Dreadnought.
  8. Proceed to battle phase for multi-attack lethal if opponent’s life is low.

Line B is the backbone of going-second OTK when you opened an extender plus Ikura.

Line C — Painful Decision fix into Uni Dreadnought

Required: Painful Decision, Shari, Uni, Sushipyard, two Level 4 bodies.

  1. Activate Painful Decision, send one Shari from deck to grave, add Shari to hand.
  2. Activate Sushipyard.
  3. Normal Summon Shari, special summon second Shari.
  4. Equip Gunkan Suship Uni via Sushipyard (searched earlier with Catch if needed).
  5. When levels satisfy Rank 5, overlay into Gunkan Suship Uni-class Dreadnought.
  6. Use Uni’s destruction effect before or after overlay depending on opponent’s board.

Line C showcases why Decision remains popular despite not being a Gunkan card—details on spells and traps.

Line D — Catch-first grind line

Required: Catch, any two Gunkan summons, topping in deck.

  1. Set Catch.
  2. Summon any Gunkan monster, search missing piece.
  3. Summon again, search again.
  4. Equip with Sushipyard, Daily Special, or Shari Red depending on hand.
  5. Overlay only when interaction is equipped.

Line D is slower but wins long games against decks that spent resources breaking your first xyz. Use on budget builds when hand traps are sparse.

Common mistakes

Setting Catch after you already used both summons wastes two triggers. Equipping toppings after xyz instead of before loses inherited effects on Carrier. Overlaying into Ikura Dreadnought without Ikura equipped sacrifices OTK damage. Normal Summoning without Sushipyard when you opened yard plus topping slows the turn by a full step.

Drills

Run each line ten times in solo mode with simulated hands from the card list hub. Then play five ranked duels focusing on only one line per session. Compare notes with the combos hub and adjust build ratios if one line never appears.

Advanced pilots chain Line A into follow-up Ikura Dreadnought on turn three using Catch searches—practice that extension after mastering the basic end boards.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers duelist ask most often.

Should I set Catch before or after summoning Shari?

Set Catch before the first summon whenever possible so every Gunkan summon triggers a search. Late Catch loses value on one-turn combo hands.

Which core line is best for beginners?

Line A (double Shari into Carrier) is the safest—learn it on the [going-first guide](/combos/going-first/) before OTK lines.

Does the video cover the same lines as this page?

Yes. The embedded video demonstrates Xyz spam and OTK patterns that match Lines A through C with Master Duel 2025 card pools.

What if I open only Shari and Catch without Sushipyard?

Set Catch, summon Shari, search Sushipyard or Shari Red, and continue on turn two—or use Daily Special if opened to equip immediately.
